Where is God in these times of turmoil?

I am sick and tired of all the doomsday prophets telling us the end is near.

I am also sick and tired of the “people of God” rejecting every attempt on God’s part to help us.

This evening I was talking with my wife about the transitions I see going on around us and how I can see God’s handwork in some of it. She kept going back to complaining that God was letting all this happen. She kept asking, where is His goodness? How could He allow so many people to die?

My Two Responses

1. God Is Present in Our Lives

Before she could listen to me, I had to get her to sit back and review all the blessings we have in our lives today. I had to get her to acknowledge the simple fact that new blessings keep appearing before us.

None of them are “Great and Powerful” blessings. They are simply blessings related to where we live, to new friends and opportunities we gained, and to the well being and closeness of our children. They are simple things, yet they reflect God’s love for us. They demonstrate His compassion for our circumstances. And, for that, we both are grateful and willing to listen to His Spirit in It’s attempts to guide us on the correct path.

God cares what happens to us, ALL of US! We just need to give Him permission to act in our lives.

2. God’s People Are Actively Blocking Him From Intervening.

This is where the problems start.

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

Where are God’s people? What are they doing?

Evangelicals and Catholics are actively engaged in trying to help re-elect President Donald J. Trump in 2020.

All that matters to them is that he is performing some political services for them. They have their thirty pieces of silver.

For example, they brag that President Trump is pro-life and is working to block abortion. So, in exchange for their duty to serve people as individuals, they work for the creation of legal constructs that they believe are needed to help God do His work of preventing the death of babies. Meanwhile, they worry about the child in the womb, but don’t seem to care about the death of children under the care of the US government or the children who are separated from their parents and placed in cages by the President’s order.

A Second Look

Let’s go back and look at that scripture again.

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

Nothing in there about passing the correct laws or getting the correct judges appointed to the local courts. Nothing in there about getting a strong leader to protect them.

  • If they humble themselves
  • If they prey
  • If they seek my face
  • If they turn from their wicked ways

Those are the conditions and that is the problem in the United States today. God’s people aren’t focused on Him. They are focused on themselves. God’s people look to secular power and authority to achieve their goals. They are willing to bed with a lying serpent to succeed.

If this country becomes an authoritarian state, it will be because of the failure of His people to repent and turn to Him for guidance.

We are in a time of transition

It is obvious to many that we are in a time of transition. Some have clear views on what that means (See: The Great Transition) while others struggle to understand, taking a more narrow focus.

The US have been moving towards chaos since the sixties. Slowly, but surely, laws have been changed to remove balance from our system and grant power to those with money. Something needs to change, and President Trump is moving us along one path, to authoritarianism. Only God can block that solution. Are you praying?

Today, we are dealing with globalization issues, monetary issues, climate issues, unfair balance of trade issues, regional war issues, and corruption issues at every level of every government on the planet.

We Need God’s Intervention.

To allow Him to intervene, we need to get out of His way. We need to spend time in prayer and listen to what the Spirit is saying to us personally. We need to be willing to follow the guidance of the Spirit and do what is needed to be done.

It may be a little thing, like helping a neighbor. It may be voting for the right person on a local board or committee.

Based on what I have said above, I would argue that one step in the US would be voting for the correct person for president.

if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

The Spirit will guide you. Always remember two things; He wants to heal our land and we are the tools He wants to use for that purpose.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.
2 Corinthians 13:14 NAS
